flower show

The Philadelphia flower show is gong on this weekend. If I lived there, I would go to it every day that it is open! We went one year and the theme was:

Enchanted Spring: a tribute to mother nature.

It was magical! A lot of the displays had fairies in them, so that was a bonus for me!

There were all kinds of flower displays from practical garden applications, table settings, still life's, vignettes, competitions, there were even chandeliers made out of vines, twigs and flowers. It was beautiful and inspiring and really made me want to get out into the garden.

There were lots of vendors there, we bought 2 concrete frog garden sculptures and some cool preserved moss that I'm still using for craft projects. At the time, I had never seen anything like that moss, it was soft and spongy, bright lime green. It is called reindeer moss and now you can buy it at almost any craft store.

But since most of us can't attend the flower show, I thought I would bring one to you. I have taken hundreds of pictures of the flowers in my gardens since we've lived here. All of these were taken by me with either an Olympus C-740 digital or a Canon A1300 point and shoot camera. Most of them are not photo-shopped in any way except for cropping, softening the edges or putting a border on them.I did play with some color saturation on a few, but I am just learning how to to edit photos in the Fotor program, it is a free downloadable photo editing program. It is a lot of fun to play with and very easy, believe me, if I can do it, anyone can. Well, I could do it after Vince showed me how!

Enjoy!

I did alter the photo in this poster in an online editing program called FotoFlexer, it allows you to make your photo look like a painting. It also has a sketch feature that will turn your photo into a black and white line drawing, so you could actually take a photo and make a painting pattern out of it for all you decorative painters out there!

this is the original photo of the Dahlia in the poster
Columbine

This is the bud of a bee balm flower.

Fancy black eyed susan

Blanket flower

Fancy black eyed susans and wild daisies
Day lilies

Fancy double petal Shasta daisy, notice the bee in the upper right hand corner? And the little red dots on the petals are some sort of bug, they are all over my daisies every summer.

Bachelor button, these just re-seed themselves every year, they pop up all over the place!

Hydrangea blossom

Iris, taken from overhead, this just showed up in the yard one year and never bloomed again.

Pansy

I picked this pansy and set it on the Japanese fern.  The ferns really have that purple hue in the veins.

Day Lily

I don't know what this is! It was in one of my flower pots on the porch, it looks sort of like a primrose.

African daisy. These close up at night.

Fancy Sunflower?

Day lily
I think this is a wild geranium, they grow like weeds here.

This is a bud of a Queen Ann's Lace flower, it really was that pink color. This is one of my favorite flower photos.

Snapdragon, my favorite flower, I don't care what color!

Sunflower

Peony Tree blossom

Violas
Columbine. I did make the background darker in this one.

Some sort of weed, but I love the way it looked. I don't mind any flowers that may be weeds as long as they stay out of my veggie garden!
I would like to dedicate this post to my mom and our friend, Patti.
I never look at a flower without thinking of these two very special people.
They are the most beautiful flowers in the garden of my life!

Oh my goodness! How flattering to find myself dedicatee along with my best friend. Thank you for such lovely & loving words. Kudos on the stunning photography. My best guess for that last fuzzy weed would be boneset. xo

As i read it i could hear you talking, Donna....incredible. And i remembered the smell of the sap cooking from when Kenny and i did the syrup making years ago, although we didn't have quite the setup and the amount that you and Vince did. But we did it in the driveway and finished it up on the stove. It was the best we have ever had. Thanks for the memories! Looking forward to the next one....
